The collection contains a letter, 1944 September 5, from Deverton Carpenter, of General George S. Patton's staff, to Howard Dutcher, a Richmond "News-Leader" colleague, describing the 3rd Army's drive through France in the summer of 1944. There is also a memoir of Amanda Stewart Bryan Kane of Richmond, Va., Smith College, New York City, and Charlottesville, Va., by Elizabeth Norfleet.
